The paper presents an overview of
history and the current state of Croatian
official municipal heraldry and vexillology.
It provides a brief overview of its historical
development, providing the basis
of the heraldic restoration which began
in the mid-1990s. It presents the current
legislation and regulations and the procedures
involving the design, adoption,
and approval of municipal coats of arms and
flags, highlighting some particular phenomena
appearing in their use, such as the ceremonial
flags. It analyses the number of adopted and approved
symbols in use in Croatia.
