This article provides a broader
explanation of the design, processing,
inauguration, and eventual suspension
of the highest award of the World
Macedonian Congress, the Order of the
Sun of the Macedonian Empire (Solem
Imperii Macedoniæ), an associate insignia
of the honorary title Macedonian Senator
(Macedonica Senatoris) bestowed upon foreign
and domestic activists, lobbyists, and friends of
Macedonia for achievements that contribute to
strengthening Macedonia’s international position
as an independent and sovereign state.
The full name of the order is Order of the Sun of
the Macedonian Empire Grand Collar and Purple
Ribbon (in Macedonian: Орден Сонце на маке-
донската империја со голем ѓердан и пурпур-
на лента; in French: L’ordre du Soleil de l’empire
macédonien avec un grand collier à ruban pourpre).
The Latin name is Solem Imperii Macedoniæ. The
Order is awarded in one rank and has been awarded
twice: in January 2004 to Robert Badinter in Paris
and in February 2004 to Otto von Habsburg in
Skopje.
