After accepting the design of the flag with 16 rays of the Kutlesh type sun on the proposal of the MP Todor Petrov, on July 30, 1992,the the proposal of a coat of arms based on the flag was also accepted. But soon the MPs of VMRO DPMNE withdrew their consent and returned to the initial request for a coat of arms with a lion to the Illyrian coats of arms.
